Mary-Alice Ozechoski
Why Aren’t They Going Away: Understanding the Needs and Anxieties of College Parents in 2008


Mary-Alice Ozechoski has worked in the Student Affairs field for over 20 years in a variety of roles including Admissions, Counseling, Student Activities and as an Associate Vice President and Assistant Dean of Students. Currently, she serves as Dean of Students at Wesley College in Dover, Delaware. She has developed a series of programs and trains faculty, staff and para-professionals across the country regarding "Millennial's and their parents". Her work will give you the opportunity to think about creating a campus culture that is emphatic and appropriately supportive of these unique students and their families.

 

Mary-Alice will give a high energy session focusing on the social, political, economic and institutional culture that has created a generation of involved and sometimes highly intrusive parents. She will share practices to support student success AND provide appropriate boundaries and opportunities for parents to enhance retention.


Marsha Herman-Betzen
No Private Thoughts: A Conversation with Marsha


Marsha Herman-Betzen is employed as Executive Director of the Association of College Unions International. She has worked in ACUI’s Central Office for 24 years and served the Association as the Coordinator of Educational Programs and Services and Associate Executive Director before becoming the Executive Director in August of 1994. Marsha began her college union career at the Oklahoma State Student Union as the Manager of Conferences and Scheduling.


This is your chance to have an open dialogue with ACUI’s Executive Director Marsha Herman-Betzen. In a town meeting format, no question is off limits. Given Marsha’s candid style and her ability to weave stories and humor into her candor, this will be an educational as well as inspiring program. Come with questions to ask Marsha after her introductory comments. Zack Wahlquist, ACUI’s Director of Member Services, will moderate the session. Topics may include:

Marsha has a bachelor’s degree in secondary education with an emphasis in speech education and sociology from the University of New Mexico and a master’s degree in interpersonal communication from the University of Michigan. In addition, she has completed over 60 hours of course work at the State University of New York at Buffalo in organizational communication.


She is one of the most traveled executive director’s, logging more than 900,000 air miles, presenting numerous educational sessions, workshops, and keynotes for campus, state, national, and international organizations. Herman-Betzen represented ACUI at the Presidents’ Summit on America’s Promise in Philadelphia, the White House Conference on Hate Crimes, and has served on the Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights task force to identify best practices in diversity education in higher education.
