The Bear Fair is a student run project at West Chester University that collects teddy bears to provide comfort to children impacted by HIV/AIDS, as well as those in hospitals, shelters, and in need at holiday time. Started in 1997 by a WCU student this project has grown over the years and is coordinated by a student committee through the Office of Service-Learning And Volunteer Programs. This community service project has grown over the past ten years and last year students reached out to the campus community and beyond to collect 6,405 teddy bears!
Your teddy bear could be the one that goes to a child who lost everything in a house fire, or to the child that has to undergo surgery at the Cleft Palate Clinic in Lancaster, PA. Your teddy bear could be the one that comforts a child who has to be in the hospital for a family member who is ill, and stuck there during the holidays. Your teddy bear although small, makes a huge difference to a sad or sick child during the holidays!
ACUI Region 3 is partnering with the Office of Service Learning at West Chester University to collect bears at all of our own campus communities to add to their bear collection for 2008. Work with your campus community to see how many bears that you can collect, then bring them to the conference November 7th and we will work to get them delivered to a child in need.
